About the Event

Witness the Honorable Mayor LaToya Cantrell as she bestows the highest honor of the City of New Orleans on Civil Rights Pioneers the New Orleans Four - Leona Tate, Ruby Bridges, Gail Etienne & Tessie Prevost commemorating the 60th Anniversary of Desegregation in the Deep South.

On Noveber 14, 1960 Four 6 year-old girls integrated previously all white schools in the Deep South. Three of the girls known as the McDonogh 3 (Leona Tate, Gail Etienne and Tessie Prevost) integrated McDonogh No. 19 Elementary School and a fourth girl, Ruby Bridges integrated William Frantz Elementary School.
